Fugitive Involved in Grafton Hit & Run in Custody

Oct 5, 2026 | 5:11 AM A man has been taken into custody after fleeing to Illinois following a hit-and-run accident in the Township of Grafton.

37-year-old David J. Sitar is accused of striking an 11-year-old boy on his bike shortly after 6:30 PM Friday while he was leaving the area on North Port Washington Road. The bicyclist was hospitalized in critical condition while Sitar fled the scene in a White Econoline van.

Sitar was eventually located in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois and taken into custody at around 9:30 Saturday night after a coordinated search by the Winthrop Harbor Police Department and several other Illinois agencies, as well as the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Probation and Patrol, which had an active warrant on him.

Sitar is now charged with multiple violations in connection to the crash including Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License Causing Great Bodily Harm.
