Didi Urges Deserters To Rejoin Her, Sends Legal Notice To 3 Doctors For Her Medical Records Leak
Kolkata: Months after losing her power in West Bengal and control over her party, former chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday appealed to her deserters to return to her fold within 15 days. She made the desperate call in an audio message which was played at a rally organised by her faction, Mamata All India Trinamool Congress, in Sujali of North Dinajpur.
“Some have thought the ruling party and opposition party are the same. Those you have elected with your hard work have been bought in exchange for money. They are dishonest and traitors. Don’t forgive them. Those who still want to make a comeback, I tell them they have to return within 15 days. If they can not make it, there is no need. We will do everything on our own,” Ms Banerjee said.
Reacting to her message, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya sarcastically said, “There is no point of return as the party has lost its symbol with its bank accounts frozen and it also ceased to exist.”
Earlier, Ms Banerjee sent a legal notice through her lawyer to three doctors of government-run SSKM Hospital for invasion of her privacy days after her successor Suvendu Adhikari made her medical records about her leg injuries, she suffered during her campaign as Nandigram Trinamul Congress candidate in 2021 Assembly Election, public, alleging that she had faked her injuries.
The three doctors are Manimoy Bandyopadhyay, director of Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research, Pijush Kumar Roy, medical superintendent-cum-vice principal and Atanu Biswas, head of the neurology department at Bangur Institute of Neurosciences.
In the notice, Ms Banerjee has pointed out violations of medical rules and ethics to maintain confidentiality of a patient’s health condition and sought to know whether her medical records were provided to Mr Adhikari. Furious over Ms Banerjee’s legal step, Mr Adhikari warned her. “Ask her not to stir it up further. If I show X-ray and MRI plates, she will not be able to step out of her house,” he said at a press conference in the state secretariat Nabanna.
