Canadian prisons to give ‘safe snorting’ drug kits to inmates

(LifeSiteNews) — The department in charge of Canada’s federal jails will be using taxpayer money to distribute free “safer snorting” kits to inmates.

In a memo to Correctional Service of Canada staff made public on social media, the department says it will be “introducing” paper straws “intended for inhaling substances in powdered form or inhaling vapour from heated substances.”

The memo claims that the paper straws will “reduce harm” because inmates are using plastic straws or other homemade devices to snort powdered substances. Correctional Services says that the paper straws will reduce the spread of diseases such as hepatitis B and C.

The memo also states that foil strips will be handed out for “safer smoking.”

The document from Correctional Services was confirmed as authentic in a National Post report, with Correctional Services saying it was made to give “information to all employees regarding the expansion of harm reduction products.”

The reality is that while hard drugs are illegal, it seems that prisoners are having no issues obtaining them in jail. The memo states that Correctional Services has “robust measures” to combat “introduction, trafficking, financing, and distribution of unauthorized substances … within its institutions, and holds those involved accountable.”

Correctional Services went as far as to state that if an inmate is to be found with the “safer” devices for drug use and is “found alongside illicit substances or unauthorized paraphernalia, standard operational procedures … must be followed.”

The new “safer” snorting kits and foil will be rolled out starting October 13.

Records show that the Liberal government under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spent approximately $820 million from 2017 to 2022 on its “Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy.” However, even the Department of Health admitted in a 2023 report that the Liberals’ drug program only had “minimal” results.

As reported by LifeSiteNews in December, the Canadian Department of Health confirmed that taxpayer dollars were used to fund the purchase of drug paraphernalia such as crack pipes and other items permitted under the Liberal government’s so-called “safe supply” program.

In 2024, the Liberal government was forced to end a three-year drug decriminalization experiment in British Columbia that allowed individuals to have small amounts of cocaine and other hard drugs on hand without being charged. Public complaints about social disorder skyrocketed during the experiment.

As reported by LifeSiteNews, Canada’s health department recently admitted that a Trudeau-era trial of allowing hard drug consumption was a disaster and led to a complete breakdown of public order in some locations.

Official figures show that overdoses went up during the decriminalization trial, with 3,313 deaths over 15 months compared with 2,843 in the same time frame before drugs were temporarily legalized.
