The Goldsboro Police Department said officers responded around 1:45 a.m. Oct. 5 to a home in the 800 block of Olivia Lane after receiving a report that someone had been shot.
Officers found a 16-year-old boy suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to UNC Health Wayne, where he died from his injuries.
The department’s Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene.
During the investigation, police identified 18-year-old Ne’vayah Sharae Smith of Goldsboro as a suspect. She was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop, according to police.
Smith was charged with second-degree murder and discharging a firearm within the city limits.
She was taken to the Wayne County Detention Center and received no bond.
