Zidane Sends Message To Portugal Over Cristiano Ronaldo

According to a report by The Daily Post on Sunday, October 4, 2026, France national team head coach Zinedine Zidane has leaped to the defence of Cristiano Ronaldo following the 41-year-old’s controversial departure from Portugal’s UEFA Nations League training camp.

Ronaldo made headlines after abruptly walking out of the national squad’s facility over a disagreement with manager Jorge Jesus ahead of their victory against Denmark.

The fallout stems from remarks made by Jesus during a pre-match press conference, leading to Ronaldo’s absence from Portugal’s final group fixture against Norway.

Addressing reporters during a press conference before France’s Nations League clash with Belgium, Zidane firmly dismissed attempts to tarnish the veteran striker’s legacy.

Recalling their iconic partnership at Real Madrid—where they won one LaLiga title and three consecutive UEFA Champions League trophies—the French manager urged football stakeholders to accord Ronaldo the respect he deserves.

“Cristiano Ronaldo made me win incredible trophies. Hats off to you, Cris. We must salute his great career the right way. I was lucky to have him with me,” Zidane declared. “I have a lot of respect for all my players and especially for Cristiano.”

With the Portuguese Football Federation currently attempting to mediate peace talks between Jesus and Ronaldo, Zidane’s glowing endorsement serves as a strong reminder of the legendary forward’s monumental contributions to world football amidst his uncertain international future.
