Three Die In Minna Protests

Three persons have been killed in Minna following violent protests in Kpagungu area of the capital city over the alleged killing of one Aliyu, a resident of the area by a vigilante personnel.

The miscreants who took to the streets, Sunday morning in protest after the news about the killing of Aliyu by one of the vigilantes in the area as they tried to arrest some miscreants in Kpagungu area the previous day, Saturday spread went and vandalized the vigilante office.

While some engaged in vandalizing the office, demanding that the vigilante who shot Aliyu by the name, Taiye be produced, some blocked the Kpakungu-Bida highway chanting anti-government slogans as they recall the number of concurrent avoidable deaths in the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Niger state Command, SP Wasiu A Abiodun, confirmed the incidents, saying, ā€œOn the 3rd October 2026 at about 10.30pm, tge police received a report indicating that a group of vigilante men mobilized to Kpakungu area to arrest some miscreants and in the process, one of the vigilant members shot one Aliyu dead, which led to protests in the areaā€.

As the situation was about escalating, the PPRO said police patrol teams were mobilized to the location and that normalcy was restored, while efforts were being made to arrest the vigilante man that shot Aliyu.

Some of the miscreants, according to the PPRO however re-grouped in the early hours the following day, Sunday October 4th, 2026, and blocked Bida-Minna road in the name of continuing the protests.

ā€œAfter anti-riot police team despatched to the scene had restored normalcy on Saturday, the following day Sunday the hoodlums regrouped and moved to Gbeganu area and started attacking residents. In the course of the attack, it was reported that two persons lost their livesā€.

Again police tactical teams, he said were drafted to the scene to maintain law and order, adding that, ā€œThe rioters were dispersed and the roads were cleared for free flow of trafficā€.
