This GMC Yukon Owner Wants Everyone to Know Their 6.2L V8 Died With Just 2,381 Miles

A message displayed on the SUV says its 6.2-liter V8 L87 engine failed at that low mileage.
The Yukon was photographed with a large sign covering its rear window, stating that the engine failure occurred on November 1, 2025. The owner also says that repair records are available, although the information displayed on the vehicle does not provide enough detail to establish exactly what caused the failure.

According to GM Authority, the L87 has already been the subject of a major recall. In April 2025, GM recalled approximately 597,630 vehicles from the 2021 through 2024 model years equipped with the engine.
The recall followed an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into manufacturing problems involving connecting rods and crankshaft oil galleries.
The L87 is used in a range of GM products, including the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Cadillac Escalade.
L87 Engine Issues However, the recall has not ended questions surrounding the engine. MotorBiscuit recently reported that engine-failure complaints have continued, including reports involving vehicles that had already received recall-related repairs.
The original recall introduced a remedy for the problem, but multiple complaints have prompted further scrutiny. Problems have also emerged in L87 engines outside the original recall population, expanding the scope of the investigation.
According to the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) report, an investigation was opened on January 16 to assess the effectiveness of the recall. ODI received complaints alleging engine failure in vehicles after the recall remedy had been completed, whether the remedy involved an oil viscosity change or a complete engine replacement for the L87 units produced between March 1, 2021, and May 31, 2024.
As of August 20, 2026, ODI has received 499 complaints alleging post-remedy engine failure in vehicles that were recalled.
Of those, 473 complaints were related to GM vehicles that underwent an oil viscosity change, while the other 26 involved vehicles that received replacement engines.
GM has admitted that it received 6,953 complaints related to post-remedy engine failure. ODI will continue investigating complaints related to post-remedy engine failure while expanding the scope of the investigation to include engines outside of the recall population.
That wider investigation gives the Yukon owner’s claim added significance, particularly because the engine reportedly failed at such low mileage.
At the same time, there is no confirmation that this particular Yukon was part of the recall or that its engine failure was caused by the manufacturing defects identified by NHTSA.
For now, the vehicle’s rear-window message is primarily an owner’s account of an engine failure rather than evidence establishing why the L87 failed.
Still, with federal regulators continuing to examine the engine and additional failure reports emerging, the case adds another example to the growing scrutiny surrounding GM’s 6.2-liter V8.
