Taylor Swift makes surprise SNL appearance as she crashes Dakota Johnson’s monologue and jokes about being her ‘breakup therapist’… before Travis Kelce shoutout

Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live to support Dakota Johnson, cameoing as the host’s ‘break-up therapist’ before giving a special shoutout to her new husband, NFL star Travis Kelce.

Swift and Johnson have been thick as thieves recently with Johnson appearing in the pop star’s music video for her song, Patient Zero, at the MTV Video Music Awards last week.

Johnson then presented Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Award and starred in her music video alongside Colin Farrell. Swift returned the favor on Saturday, surprising Johnson during her SNL monologue.

Johnson caught the audience up on her life since she last hosted, poking fun at her most recent breakups.

‘I went through two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians. Looking for a third,’ she joked.

Johnson then turned the punchline on her new movie, Verity, noting that, just like her film, dating musicians is like a ‘psychosexual erotic thriller.’

‘But I have really good friends. They don’t judge me for dating these men. They’re actually really supportive,’ she continued.

Johnson then introduced Swift as her ‘literal therapist,’ who joined her onstage in a grey plaid dress as the audience erupted in applause.

‘I’m not—I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some,’ Swift responded.

‘And then you flop on my couch and overshare, and every so often I just say, “Damn, that’s crazy,”‘ she continued.

‘Is that not a therapist?’ Johnson quipped.

The host then joked that women around the world should thank her for taking one for the team and dating misunderstood musicians, further noting that those in ‘England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland’ should be most grateful.

After referencing Kelce’s hometown, Swift shouted out her husband with a ‘Woo-woo’ to the crowd.

The pop star recently released encore tracks from her 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl, which included a song called Cleveland! dedicated to her husband. Patient Zero also appeared on the new set of tracks.

Swift is no stranger to the SNL stage. She graced the studio with Kelce back in 2023 to introduce her friend and collaborator Ice Spice as the musical guest.

She also hosted the show herself in 2009 and has appeared as a musical guest in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Fans speculated Swift could pop by, as she and Johnson have long had a public friendship and collaboration.

Earlier this month at the Emmys, Swift also made a cameo in a pre-recorded sketch with her longtime friend and the show’s host, Mariska Hargitay.

During the skit, the cast of Law & Order SVU attempted to crack the code on whether she would appear at the Emmys.

Although Swift was caught up at an NFL game for her husband, she popped in for the skit, and a ‘Saturday Night Live’ emblem appeared behind her, tacked to a bulletin board.

Johnson and Swift have been friends for years and have professionally collaborated multiple times.

The pop star wrote and recorded a song for Johnson’s film, Fifty Shades Darker, called I Don’t Want to Live Forever with Zayn.

Swifties went wild online after the surprise appearance, with one writing on X, ‘Dakota is so real because if I was friends with Taylor Swift too, I’d also force her to be my therapist.’

‘This being the most accurate way to introduce Taylor Swift,’ another joked.

‘Taylor Swift on Saturday night live supporting Dakota Johnson OH MY GOD,’ a third added.

Saturday was Johnson’s third time hosting SNL. Turnstile joined her as the musical guest. Shane Gillis is set to host the show next week with musical guest Rosalía.
