THREE suspects have been arrested following the “senseless killing” of a young Hawston man who was stabbed to death during an alleged argument on Friday night.

James Henn, 28, was allegedly attacked and stabbed in the neck in Nasson Street, Hawston, shortly after 11pm.

Provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala told the Daily Voice Hermanus police registered a murder case following the incident at about 11pm on Friday, 2 October.

“According to reports, the 28-year-old male had an argument with the suspects which escalated. The suspects physically assaulted the deceased and stabbed him in the neck,” Gwala said.

Henn was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The three suspects were arrested and are expected to make their first court appearance in Hermanus on Monday.

Overstrand Municipality PR councillor Rugene Dees described Henn’s death as “senseless” and called for the community to stand together against violence.

“Moord en doodslag is so sinneloos,” Dees wrote in a message shared on social media.

“Our hearts are broken. A young life was cruelly taken from us in a knife attack.”

Dees said the community could no longer remain silent about knife violence among young people.

Dees added: “A knife is not the answer. It destroys two families – that of the victim and that of the perpetrator. Let us, as parents, talk to our children. Let us as a community stand together against violence.

Hawston Rugby Football Club also paid tribute to Henn, expressing its deepest condolences to his loved ones.

The club said in a Facebook post: “Our deepest condolences to the Henn family on the tragic passing of your beloved James Henn. May God give you strength, comfort and peace during this incredibly difficult time.”
