Ruto Lands in Hot Soup After 17 People Die in Fatal Road Accident as This Is Revealed – Details
Dr Peter Mbae has criticised President William Ruto’s administration following the tragic road accident at Salama that claimed the lives of 17 Catholic pilgrims.
The victims were members of St Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church, Mikindani Parish, who were travelling to the National Shrine in Subukia, Nakuru County, for the National Prayer Day. The crash happened early Saturday morning along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
Mbae blamed the government for what he described as failures that contributed to the deadly accident. His remarks come as the country continues to mourn the victims and demand answers over road safety.
The crash involved several vehicles after a lorry reportedly collided with another truck while attempting to overtake. The impact led to further collisions involving the vehicle carrying the pilgrims. Police said the 17 victims died at the scene.
The National Transport and Safety Authority has launched investigations into the accident. Authorities said the exercise will establish the circumstances surrounding the crash and determine whether factors such as roadworthiness, lane discipline or other safety issues played a role.
Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir also mourned the victims and called on motorists to exercise greater caution. He specifically warned drivers against dangerous overtaking and urged them to ensure vehicles are roadworthy.
The Salama section of the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway has also been identified as a known black spot, with authorities saying recommendations had previously been made to improve safety along the stretch.
President Ruto has sent condolences to the families, friends, parishioners and the wider Catholic community following the deaths.
Mbae’s criticism now adds a political dimension to the tragedy as investigations continue. However, the cause of the accident and any responsibility for it will have to be established through the ongoing investigations.
For many Kenyans, the immediate concern remains the loss of 17 lives and the need to prevent similar tragedies on the country’s roads.
