Prepare for 24 Hours of Heavy Morning and Afternoon Rainfall if You Live in These Regions

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several coastal and northern counties from Saturday night, October 3, through Sunday evening, October 4, 2026.

According to the forecast issued at 3:00pm on Saturday, the weather outlook will be valid from 9:00pm on October 3 to 9:00pm on October 4.

The department expects rainfall in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Garissa, Mandera and Marsabit counties.

Parts of Turkana, Samburu and Marsabit are also expected to experience strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots, equivalent to about 12.5 metres per second.

In Mombasa, partly cloudy conditions are expected on Saturday night, with light showers possible in a few places. Sunday will have sunny intervals, moderate showers in the morning and light showers in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to range between 23°C and 30°C.

Kwale and Kilifi are expected to experience similar conditions, with partly cloudy skies at night followed by sunny intervals and showers on Sunday.

Tana River and Lamu will have partly cloudy conditions at night, with sunny intervals and chances of light showers during the day.

In northern Kenya, Garissa and Wajir are expected to remain partly cloudy overnight, with chances of light rain in a few places on Sunday morning. Mandera could receive light showers at night and light rain on Sunday morning, while parts of Marsabit, including Moyale, could receive light rain.

Several central and eastern counties, including Isiolo, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui and Machakos, will have partly cloudy conditions overnight. Sunny intervals and chances of light rain or showers are expected in a few places on Sunday.

Nyandarua is expected to record some of the coolest conditions, with temperatures ranging between a maximum of 24°C and a minimum of 6°C.

The department defines light rainfall as amounts below 5mm, while moderate rainfall ranges between 5mm and 20mm. “Few places” refers to areas covering less than 33 percent of a region, while “likely” represents a 51 to 75 percent probability of occurrence.
