Over 4,000 APC, PDP, Accord, APM Members Switch Parties in Oyo Ahead of 2027

According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, October 4, 2026, political activities in Oyo State have intensified ahead of the 2027 general elections, with hundreds of members and supporters of the APC, APM, PDP and Accord switching allegiance among the parties.

In Oluyole Local Government Area, hundreds of APC and Accord members moved to the APM, while more than 1,000 APM members simultaneously defected to the APC.

In Ibadan North-East, over 3,000 PDP and Accord members also joined the APC.

The APC and Accord defectors in Oluyole were led to the APM by Chief Adewale Alatise, popularly known as Afama.

Others included Reverend Adeniyi Oluwarotimi, Temitope Emmanuel, Asasile Oluwabunmi and Alaba Isiaka. Alatise described the APM as a platform committed to progressive politics.

APM leaders, including the local government chairman, Hamzat Nasir, welcomed the defectors and said their arrival had strengthened the party’s grassroots structure ahead of the election.

Also joining the APM was Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, a former Personal Assistant to ex-Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu.

He said his decision was personal and driven by his political convictions and desire to encourage greater youth participation.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 APM members led by Mustapha Kazeem, known as Oba Oluyole, defected to the APC.

Kazeem cited dissatisfaction with the political leadership in the state as a major reason for the move.

In Ibadan North-East, PDP candidate Hammed Taoreed Ademola and Accord aspirant Adedapo Ojo led supporters into the APC. Both said they concluded that the APC offered stronger prospects ahead of 2027.

Receiving the defectors, APC chairman Moses Alake-Adeyemo promised equal opportunities and urged them to work for the party’s success.

The APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, also pledged an inclusive administration, regular payment of salaries and pensions, improved infrastructure, ICT hubs and better healthcare facilities across Oyo’s 33 local government areas.
