NPP Bosome Freho Chairman Reportedly Arrested at National Delegates Conference

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region, Patrick Kwaku Frimpong, has reportedly been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following an incident involving a ballot paper at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

The incident reportedly occurred during the voting process at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where thousands of NPP delegates had gathered to elect new national executives.

According to reports, a delegate from the Bosome Freho constituency encountered difficulties with the electronic voting system and was unable to cast a ballot. The situation reportedly became complicated after the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Dr Francis Adomako, had earlier written to the constituency indicating that the particular delegate had been barred from voting in the election.

Following the difficulties experienced with the electoral system, the Electoral Commission reportedly provided the delegate with a ballot paper to enable the person to participate in the voting process.

However, Patrick Kwaku Frimpong is alleged to have taken the ballot paper and torn it apart. The incident subsequently attracted the attention of security personnel at the venue and reportedly resulted in his arrest for questioning.

The circumstances surrounding the incident and the reasons behind the alleged destruction of the ballot paper remain subject to further clarification.

The reported arrest comes at a tense point in the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, which has already experienced delays and other incidents as delegates gather to elect national officers.

More than 7,000 delegates from across the country are participating in the conference, with the Electoral Commission supervising the voting process.

The outcome of the police inquiry into the incident is expected to provide further details on what transpired and whether any formal charges will be pursued against the Bosome Freho constituency chairman.

For now, the arrest remains a reported development, and no final determination of wrongdoing has been established.
