Naqvi, KP governor agree on constitutional role to counter terrorism, maintain law and order

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi have agreed that constitutional institutions must fulfil their responsibilities to help protect the province from terrorism and ensure law and order.

Naqvi met Governor Kundi at the Governor House in Peshawar on Sunday in a meeting attended by the chief secretary and inspector general of police.

The discussions covered the province’s political and security situation, with particular focus on law and order and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march, according to an official statement.

Both the governor and interior minister agreed to perform their constitutional responsibilities in support of efforts to protect Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from terrorism.

The statement said the Governor House would fulfil its constitutional responsibilities if President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided that the imposition of governor’s rule or an emergency was necessary.

The meeting also examined the use of state resources during the PTI long march. According to the statement, using a government helicopter or other official resources for the march would be in violation of court decisions.
