Meet Abigael and Kiragu, the Gen Z couple who wed in Nairobi CBD

A young couple, Abigael and Kiragu, turned an ordinary Saturday afternoon in Nairobi into a street celebration when they held their wedding near the National Archives on October 3, 2026.

At first, many people walking by assumed it was a skit being filmed for social media. A bride in a white gown, with neat makeup and a carefully styled hairdo, stood next to her groom, who wore a well-fitted grey suit.

Soft love songs played from a small Bluetooth speaker placed close by, giving the busy city street a calm and romantic feel.

The two talked openly about what they expected from marriage, smiling and holding each other’s attention while a crowd slowly gathered. Some people stopped for a quick look and stayed, trying to work out whether the moment was real or staged.

Then Kiragu knelt on one knee, took out a ring and slipped it onto Abigael’s finger. She was visibly emotional, and it became clear to onlookers that this was a genuine wedding.

The mood changed quickly from curiosity to joy. Other young people began dancing around the couple, cheering and clapping, and soon the pavement felt like a reception.

Abigael and Kiragu joined in. The bride laughed as she tried the dance steps strangers showed her, and she also showed off a few moves of her own, keeping up with the energy around her.

The moment was recorded and shared on TikTok by the couple under the name Kiragu and Abigael. What began as a private exchange between two people in love ended as a public celebration in the heart of the city, with passers-by serving as witnesses and guests.
