Love Triangle? Details Emerge on Why Tycoon Chivayo Was Dumped by His Former Wife

Details have emerged on why tycoon Wicknell Chivayo was divorced by his former wife, Sonja Madzikanda.

According to a report published by Taifa Leo, Madzikanda moved to end the marriage after accusing Chivayo of infidelity, emotional mistreatment, and neglect. The couple’s separation later resulted in a legal battle involving their two children and their finances.

In April 2025, the Zimbabwe High Court approved a settlement requiring Chivayo to provide KSh 649 million for the children’s upkeep and future financial security.

By the time the agreement received court approval, Chivayo had already paid KSh 285 million.

He was required to remit the remaining KSh 363 million within 30 days into a bank account managed by Madzikanda.

The money was to be invested, with the proceeds expected to cater for the children’s long-term expenses.

During the first year, Chivayo was still responsible for meeting their everyday costs as the investment fund was being put in place.Chivayo and Madzikanda tied the knot in a customary ceremony in July 2017.

Madzikanda, aged 34, announced their separation in early 2024 as their relationship deteriorated.

Court records revealed that she had initially demanded KSh 3.2 billion as a lump sum.

She also requested monthly maintenance of KSh 5.1 million and an annual budget of KSh 130 million for holidays and entertainment.

Madzikanda further sought full custody of the children, with Chivayo expected to have restricted visitation rights.

Her claim also identified a collection of high-value assets, including several Rolls Royce cars, a Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz vehicles and a private jet.

Properties in Harare and Johannesburg were also mentioned, alongside several businesses allegedly associated with Chivayo.

Chivayo later approached the court seeking assured access to his children. He claimed that he had been denied contact with them despite making attempts to resolve the disagreement privately.

Ultimately, the court approved a more limited settlement centred on the welfare of the children, with Chivayo committing KSh 649 million under the agreed financial support plan.
