Keralam UDF convener Adoor Prakash to knock on high command door over displeasure with CM’s decisions
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Close on the heels of making his resentment over lack of consultations by Chief Minister V D Satheesan public, UDF convener Adoor Prakash is set to take his complaint to the Congress national leadership. Prakash will meet leaders in Delhi on Monday and hand over letters to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking the high command’s urgent intervention.
Incidentally, Congress state president Sunny Joseph and Satheesan will also be in Delhi on Monday and Tuesday, thereby setting the ground for the high command to hold talks with the state leaders during the visit. While the chief minister will be in Delhi to attend the GST Council meeting on Tuesday, the KPCC president has been called to the national capital by the AICC leadership for the PCC chiefs’ meeting.
Prakash will formally convey his disgruntlement over being sidelined from key decision-making within the front. After his open revolt, many Congress leaders are keeping a distance from Prakash. He told TNIE that none of the senior leaders in either the party leadership or the UDF had contacted him to discuss the matter. Prakash added that he would wait for the high command’s final decision.
“On Monday, I will formally inform the central leadership whatever I have to convey regarding the ongoing political developments in the state. Now, it is for the high command to take a call. I will abide by any decision, even if they feel like moving me out of this role,” he said. It is learnt that Prakash will also bring to the AICC leadership’s attention the ongoing cyber attacks against him from alleged Satheesan loyalists.
‘High command likely to intervene in matter without further delay’
After being bombarded with social media attacks over his outburst against the chief minister, Prakash on Saturday came up with a social media reel indicating that those who are now attacking him will have to face the music in the long run. “It seems the Satheesan camp has chosen to respond to the accusations with aggression,” said a leader.
It is learnt that what Prakash expressed was the collective opinion of a section of leaders in the party. On the other hand, the Satheesan camp is cautious as it senses a deliberate move to target the CM with the blessings of some seniors.
Sources said the high command is likely to intervene in the matter without further delay. “What K C Venugopal said the other day indicates that the leadership will intervene to sort out the matter. The entire state leadership including the KPCC president, the UDF convener and the chief minister will be in Delhi next week. Since Rahul Gandhi is leading the Parliament march on Tuesday, discussions will most probably be held on September 7,” said a Political Affairs Committee member.
Sunny Joseph will be in Delhi on Monday to attend the PCC presidents’ meeting, and naturally, the ongoing issues in the state party and the UDF convener’s open dissent will come up for discussions in the meeting. The national leadership will look into the UDF convener’s charges on lack of coordination.
Meanwhile, there are indications that the high command will also look into the appointment of a new PCC chief for Keralam. “I have already conveyed my willingness to step down from the post of PCC president. Now, the high command will have to take a decision,” Sunny told TNIE, adding that the UDF convener’s resentment and related issues are not for the party’s state unit to discuss.
