Jomo Cosmos back in Vaal again!

SEDIBENG.- Jomo Cosmos has played their ABC Motsepe League matches in the Vaal Triangle for the past three seasons.

Ezenkosi has made the Isak Steyl Stadium at Vaal University of Technology (VUT) their happy hunting ground, playing their ABC Motsepe League home games there.

History shows a strong relationship between Jomo Cosmos and the Vaal Triangle, dating back to the 1990s.  For example, for decades Jomo Cosmos has signed exciting players from this region.

The club became a household name in South African football because of Vaal Triangle players.

The players signed in the past include former Bafana Bafana dreadlocked midfielder Augustine Makalakalane, Mabena ‘Love’ Monnakgotla, and Aaron ‘Mbazo’ Mokoena.

Some of the exciting players the club signed in the past include former Bafana Bafana dreadlocked midfielder Augustine Makalakalane, Mabena ‘Love’ Monnakgotla, and Aaron ‘Mbazo’ Mokoena, who still holds the record as the most-capped former Bafana Bafana player.

As if this is not enough, Avril Phali and Lucky Mhlathe were some of the players from Vaal who were discovered by Jomo Sono.

Aaron Mokoena and Augustine Makalakalane went on to make a name for themselves in Europe, spending more than ten years playing abroad. Not only that, after Jomo Cosmos were relegated from top-flight football, they came to play their First National Division home games here in Vaal five years ago.

Local soccer fans would pack this venue to capacity to watch Cosmos play against the likes of Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards, among other teams.  Cosmos made history when they returned to PSL status thanks to Vaal Triangle soccer fans.

Ironically, after they were promoted to the PSL, Cosmos relocated to North West, leaving local soccer fans longing for top-flight football in the Vaal.

Unfortunately, the club was again relegated to the lower division.

With the ABC Motsepe League kick-off this weekend, Cosmos will host Young Pirates FC at the Duduza Stadium this afternoon.
