Indian man kills father after watching ‘Drishyam 3’

An Indian man travelled nearly 2,000 kilometres to his village and killed his sleeping father after watching Bollywood film Drishyam 3, according to Indian media reports.

Police identified the suspect as Shiv Shankar, who works in Surat.

Investigators said he watched the film, switched off his mobile phone, and travelled to his village in Bihar’s Samastipur district to carry out the alleged murder.

According to police, Shiv Shankar entered his home through the back door during the night and attacked his sleeping father, Raghuveer Sahni, with an axe kept inside the house.

The suspect apparently believed that keeping his phone switched off would prevent police from tracking him.

However, investigators said he made a crucial mistake on his way back.

At Patori railway station, Shiv Shankar switched on his phone and called his wife.

Police traced the call and used the phone data to connect him to the case.

Investigators also noted that he did not attend his father’s funeral, while his mobile location on the day of the killing showed his presence at Patori railway station.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to the killing and told investigators that he had learned the method from Drishyam 3.

Police said the father and son had a history of disputes over a land issue.

A case has been registered against the suspect, and further investigation and legal proceedings are under way.
