Head-on crash on Hwy 18 in Floyd County injures 2, truck catches fire
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and were taken to MercyOne North Iowa for treatment.
FLOYD COUNTY, Iowa — Two people were hurt in a head-on crash Saturday on Highway 18 in Floyd County.
The crash happened around 6:51 p.m. on Highway 18 westbound between Echo Avenue and Foothill Avenue. The Iowa State Patrol says Bruce Ohern Jr., 42 of Mason City, was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 eastbound on Highway 18 when he lost control and crossed the median, striking a westbound 2017 Ford F350 head-on.
The State Patrol says the Ford, driven by Timothy Dodd, 45 of Bowling Green, Missouri, went into the north ditch where its trailer overturned and the truck caught fire. The Dodge came to rest in the westbound lanes.
Ohern was pulled from his truck by local fire departments. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and were taken to MercyOne North Iowa for treatment. Ohern was transported by AMR Charles City ambulance, and Dodd was transported by Nora Springs ambulance.
Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, fire departments, search and rescue teams from Nora Springs and Rudd, AMR ambulance, and Lake Towing helped at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
