Doctor Khumalo’s son spotted at a fine dining restaurant in Sandton on his 22nd birthday

Diego Khumalo, the son of Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo, is continuing his development as he looks to build his own career while carrying the weight of one of South African football’s most famous surnames.

The 22-year-old is currently undergoing development under the guidance of respected coach Farouk Khan at the Stars of Africa Academy, where he is working to improve his game and take the next step in his football journey.

Diego recently attracted attention after celebrating his 22nd birthday at the luxurious Signature Restaurant in Sandton. His mother, Nolly Blanche Garises, a former Air Namibia flight attendant, shared a video on Instagram showing Diego enjoying the occasion in a private dining area alongside her and one of his close friends.

While the birthday celebration offered a glimpse into his personal life, much of the interest surrounding Diego remains centred on his football ambitions and the legacy attached to his family name.

Diego is the grandson of Eliakim “Pro” Khumalo, another respected figure in South African football, meaning he comes from a family with a deep-rooted connection to the sport. His father, Doctor Khumalo, went on to become one of the most recognisable players of his generation and a legendary figure at Kaizer Chiefs.

Known affectionately as “16V”, Doctor Khumalo enjoyed an illustrious career and represented South Africa at international level. According to his Transfermarkt profile, the former midfielder earned 50 caps for Bafana Bafana and scored nine international goals.

His achievements have naturally placed expectations on Diego, although the youngster will be hoping to establish an identity of his own rather than simply being judged against his famous father.

For now, Diego remains focused on his development at the Stars of Africa Academy, with Farouk Khan playing an important role in helping him progress. Whether he eventually reaches the heights achieved by his father and grandfather remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, with football deeply embedded in the Khumalo family, Diego has an opportunity to write the next chapter of a remarkable South African football legacy.
