Dino Melaye Reacts As Atiku Visits Fuel Station Hours After Amaechi Challenged Tinubu On Pump Price

Former Kogi State Senator Dino Melaye has reacted to a visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to a filling station shortly after Amaechi challenged President Bola Tinubu over the price of petrol.

Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, made the challenge during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday. He said he would withdraw from Atiku’s ticket and campaign for Tinubu if petrol was reduced to ₦600 per litre.

Hours after the televised statement, Atiku and Amaechi visited a filling station as part of an effort to observe the situation at fuel stations and the experience of Nigerians buying petrol.

Melaye reacted to the development, describing the visit as an attempt by the ADC presidential and vice-presidential candidates to see and experience conditions at filling stations while reassuring Nigerians about their plans.

The development comes as petrol prices and the broader cost of living remain key issues in political discussions ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Amaechi has continued to make the cost of petrol and transportation central to his criticism of the Tinubu administration. During his television appearance, he questioned whether Nigerians had experienced the reduction in living costs promised by the government.

Atiku and Amaechi are contesting the 2027 election on the ADC platform, with economic conditions forming part of their campaign message and criticism of the current administration.
