The Karawal Nagar project is being developed as Delhi’s first integrated double-decker structure, combining a flyover and Metro corridor in a single project. The 1.4-km structure is being built in northeast Delhi. It will run between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations.

The Delhi government said 88% of construction work on the project has been completed. The project is now targeted for completion by December 2026. The revised project cost has been approved at Rs 291 crore.

The 1.4-km structure is being built between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations. It passes through Karawal Nagar, Ghonda and Brijpuri junction on Mangal Pandey Marg. An MoU between PWD and DMRC for the project was signed on February 24, 2021.

The project combines a flyover and Metro corridor in one integrated double-decker structure. The structure is being executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Its original estimated cost was Rs 220 crore, which has now been revised to Rs 291 crore.

Work on the project was affected in 2023 because approvals required for certain components were not available. The Delhi government has now approved the revised cost estimate. With 88% of construction work completed, the project is targeted for completion by December.

The government said the stretch currently witnesses heavy traffic congestion. It estimates that around 65-70% of traffic would shift to the elevated structure, leaving the surface road largely for local traffic. The project is also expected to provide a signal-free stretch from Gokulpuri to Signature Bridge via Khajuri Khas.
