Delhi Government Highlights 502 PALNA Centres and ₹25 Crore ANMOL Initiative for Women and Newborns
The Delhi Government is highlighting two initiatives aimed at supporting working mothers and improving early healthcare for newborns. These include a network of 502 PALNA Centres offering childcare support and the ANMOL initiative, which is designed to provide free screening for 56 genetic and health conditions in newborns.
Under CM Rekha Gupta, the PALNA network is being developed to provide childcare facilities for working women. The centres are intended to help mothers continue their employment and livelihoods while ensuring access to care for their children.
The initiative addresses childcare needs by providing support that can help women balance their professional responsibilities with parenting. The network of 502 centres is part of the Delhi Government’s broader efforts to expand childcare access across the city.
Alongside childcare support, the government’s ANMOL initiative focuses on early screening and detection of health conditions in newborns. The programme is designed to screen infants for 56 genetic and health conditions at no cost to families.
With a dedicated budget of ₹25 crore, ANMOL aims to screen 2.5 lakh newborns every year. The initiative is intended to facilitate early identification of potential health concerns and enable timely medical care from the first day of life.
The screening process is based on collecting a small blood sample from newborns, which is used to test for the specified conditions. Early detection can help healthcare providers identify infants who may require further evaluation, monitoring or treatment.
Together, PALNA and ANMOL address different aspects of family and public welfare. While PALNA focuses on childcare access and the participation of women in the workforce, ANMOL aims to strengthen newborn healthcare through early screening.
