CM Bugti rules out talks with those who take up arms against state
ISLAMABAD – Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has emphasised that political issues must be resolved through political processes, reaffirming the government’s readiness to engage in dialogue with political stakeholders. However, he made it clear that negotiations cannot be held with those who shed innocent blood or take up arms, stressing that the writ of the state and the protection of citizens are non-negotiable. Speaking as the chief guest at a special lecture organized by the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), Bugti highlighted the need to understand Balochistan in the context of its history, geography, social fabric, political evolution, and present-day realities. He noted that the province’s challenges cannot be comprehended through selective narratives or isolated incidents, but require a holistic approach grounded in authentic historical sources and documented evidence. The CM underscored that sustainable solutions to Balochistan’s issues lie in effective governance, meritocracy, political inclusion, opportunities for youth, economic development, and the enforcement of state authority. He pointed to initiatives such as AI-based merit recruitments, revival of thousands of inactive schools, re-enrollment of out-of-school children, establishment of new schools and classrooms, recruitment of nearly 17,000 teachers on merit contracts, expansion of healthcare facilities, and creation of opportunities for women and youth as part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen public trust in state institutions. Sarfraz Bugti stressed that peace and development are inseparable, noting that the government is enhancing the capacity of police and law enforcement agencies through modern policing, intelligence-based operations, effective prosecution, and improved inter-agency coordination. He said the aim is to create an environment where youth choose education, employment, and constructive activities over violence. He added that Balochistan’s path to lasting peace and progress lies in constitutional democracy, effective governance, education, economic opportunities, and security. Sarfraz Bugti said that a realistic assessment of present challenges, coupled with a collective strategy for the future, is essential to steer the province towards stability and prosperity.
