Chiefs Star Finally Reveals Why He Chose Amakhosi After Sundowns Shock Exit

Monnapule Saleng’s reported move to Kaizer Chiefs has emerged as one of the latest talking points in South African football, with reports suggesting that the winger is preparing for a fresh start after a difficult spell at Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Sports With Daily News, Saleng has reportedly agreed to a three-year pre-contract with Chiefs and could join the Soweto giants as a free agent. However, Kaizer Chiefs had not officially confirmed the reported agreement at the time of publication, meaning the transfer should still be treated as unconfirmed.

The reported development comes after a challenging period in Saleng’s career. The attacker rose to prominence during his time at Orlando Pirates before making a move to Sundowns in January 2026 following his spell with Orbit College. However, opportunities at Chloorkop were reportedly limited, with his situation becoming increasingly difficult as he found himself away from the regular first-team setup.

A September 28 report by Sports With Daily News also claimed that Saleng had explained his reasons for pursuing a move to Chiefs and reflected on his experience at Sundowns. However, the full comments attributed to the player could not be independently verified through a primary interview source, and should therefore be regarded as reported claims rather than confirmed statements from Saleng.

A move to Chiefs would nevertheless have a personal connection for the winger. In a 2021 interview with iDiski Times, Saleng revealed that he grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs, despite eventually establishing himself professionally at their fierce Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates.

Chiefs are currently undergoing a rebuilding process under head coach Fernando Da Cruz, and Saleng’s reported arrival could provide the club with another attacking option and a player capable of bringing experience to the squad.

For now, supporters will have to wait for official confirmation from Chiefs or the player before treating the reported three-year agreement as completed.
