Chiefs Star Finally Reveals Why He Chose Amakhosi After Sundowns Shock Exit

Monnapule Saleng’s reported move to Kaizer Chiefs has become a major talking point in South African football, following claims that the winger has agreed to join the Soweto club after a difficult period at Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Sports With Daily News, Saleng has reportedly agreed to a three-year pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs. The reported agreement would see him join the club as a free agent. However, Chiefs had not officially confirmed the deal at the time of publication, meaning the reported transfer remains subject to confirmation from the club or the player.

The development comes after a challenging spell for Saleng at Sundowns. The winger built his reputation during his time at Orlando Pirates before joining Sundowns in January 2026, following his spell with Orbit College. Since arriving at Chloorkop, however, his opportunities have reportedly been limited.

There have also been reports about his absence from the Sundowns first-team environment, adding to uncertainty surrounding his future at the club. His reported decision to consider a move to Kaizer Chiefs would therefore represent another important stage in his career.

A report published by Sports With Daily News on 28 September claimed that Saleng had discussed his decision to pursue the Chiefs opportunity and had also spoken about his experience at Sundowns. However, the full interview and the comments attributed to him could not be independently confirmed through a primary source. As a result, those details remain reported claims rather than confirmed statements from the player.

A move to Chiefs would also have a personal connection for Saleng. In a 2021 interview with iDiski Times, he said that he grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs, even though his professional career later took him to their Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates.

For Chiefs, the reported arrival of Saleng would add another attacking option as the club works to build its squad under head coach Fernando Da Cruz. Saleng’s experience at top-level South African clubs could also be important if the reported move eventually becomes official.

For now, there has been no official confirmation of the reported three-year agreement. The transfer terms, Saleng’s reasons for choosing Chiefs and the timing of any possible announcement will only become clear once the relevant parties publicly confirm the move.
