“Chama Ndio Hiyo” Sifuna Settles on a Fully Registered Party to Run for President

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have settled on the political vehicle he could use as he prepares for the 2027 presidential contest.

Sifuna and members of his Linda Mwananchi team are meeting at the Stanley Hotel in Nairobi, where the senator is unveiling The Equitable Party (TEP) as his preferred political vehicle.

The development could mark an important shift in Sifuna’s political plans after months of uncertainty surrounding the Linda Mwananchi Movement and its efforts to secure a political party identity.

The Equitable Party is already a fully registered political party, giving Sifuna an immediate platform through which he could pursue his ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His team’s decision to consider TEP comes at a time when the Linda Mwananchi camp has been involved in a legal battle over the proposed party name.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal recently directed the Registrar of Political Parties to reconsider the Linda Mwananchi application after overturning the initial refusal. The movement subsequently secured approval to reserve the name for 90 days.

However, the latest developments suggest Sifuna may be looking beyond the prolonged registration wrangles and could instead settle on an already registered party.

Sifuna has increasingly positioned himself as one of the prominent figures within the emerging opposition camp, with his political activities attracting attention as 2027 approaches.

His decision will also come as other opposition figures continue positioning themselves through different parties and alliances in their attempts to challenge President William Ruto.
