CEC working for Sangh Parivar; Muslims specifically targeted in ‘SIR’ exercise: Farooq Abdullah
Srinagar:In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has strongly criticized the Election Commission of India for deleting the names of a large number of voters during the Special Summary Revision (SIR) campaign.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq Abdullah addressing a party meeting in Srinagar stated people have begun to show courage and resolve, signalling that “change” is on the horizon.
He lashed out at the Chief Election Commissioner of India, asserting that no one has the right to remove a citizen’s name from the electoral roll. He remarked that everyone is aware of how names were removed from the lists, followed by a casual response: “Oh well, we will look into it during the next elections.”
He emphasized that since the Indian Constitution grants the right to vote as a citizen, no one has the authority to strike a person’s name from the list.
Farooq Abdullah stated that Muslims were specifically targeted and their names deleted; even the name of a prominent lawyer like Kapil Sibal was removed from the list. Countless names were struck off because the ruling dispensation’s goal is to remain in power, and to achieve this, they require individuals who act at their beck and call, he lamented.
Farooq Abdullah said, however, that winds of change have begun to blow, and people are gaining confidence. “Change is bound to come. I tell you, a wind of change is blowing that will see the authority of the people re-emerge”, he remarked.
He stated that the Narendra Modi government included two members from the government side and one from the opposition in the process of selecting the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). “Tell me, when there is a majority of two on one side, what can that single opposition representative possibly do? After all, decisions are made by a majority vote,” he maintained.
Leveraging this very majority, Modi appointed a secretary from his own department as the head of the Election Commission—an individual who is completely biased and works for the Sangh Parivar.
