2 dead, up to 35 injured in homecoming party mass shooting in Georgia
VIENNA, Ga. (WALB/Gray News) – Two people are dead and as many as 35 people have been injured in a mass shooting at a homecoming party in Georgia, according to officials.
According to Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls, the shooting happened around 1:15 a.m. in Vienna, Georgia, during a homecoming party where deputies were monitoring a crowd of more than 1,000 people.
Walls confirmed a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were killed. Their families have been notified, but the men have not been publicly identified because the shooting is under investigation.
Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy said shots were fired at at least 50 people in at least two locations about a block apart. He said 25 people were taken to the hospital and as many as 35 people may have been injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting local authorities with the investigation.
