"I had headphones on, and my glasses kind of blocked my peripheral vision," Perry said. "Which is why I didn't see the handle move."

That man tries to walk away, only to show back up later next to another man, who hasn't been identified.

Winston-Salem police say 24-year-old Patrick Mathurin attempted to break into several homes that night, successfully breaking into one and, according to court documents, climbed on top of a woman while she was sleeping and started kissing her. Jean says that news was startling to hear.

"When I saw the news that it was actually the guy that knocked on, that tried to open my door, that's when it really hit hard," she said. "Especially after finding out what he was charged with. You can't help but wonder how it could have played out."

Mathurin is facing multiple counts of first-degree burglary, second-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree burglary, sexual battery and resisting a public officer.

In court, 12 Investigators learned that he has a criminal history stemming back to 2019, which includes common law robbery and previous alleged sexual offenses where some victims didn't move forward with charges.
