Species considered extremely rare in Pakistan

A rare white-tailed eagle from the cold northern regions was rescued in Sukkur after it fell into the hands of hunters.

The young eagle arrived in Sukkur in November 2025 but was captured and kept in captivity. Its eyes were covered and its feathers were cut.

Animal activist Haroon Yousafzai and his team learnt about the rare bird and carried out a rescue operation in Sukkur.

The eagle was then given medical treatment under expert supervision, while its care and rehabilitation continued.

Wildlife experts said the white-tailed eagle is usually found in the cold regions of Europe and northern Asia, from Scandinavia to Siberia.

The species is considered extremely rare in Pakistan.
