Mike Sonko Shares Glimpse Of Wicknell Chivayo’s Ancestral Home Where He Will Be Laid To Rest

A video showing the ancestral home of late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has attracted widespread attention online following his death in a helicopter crash.

The footage offers a glimpse into the rural homestead in Gandami Village, Chivhu, where traditional grass-thatched structures can be seen surrounded by the quiet countryside.

The modest setting has drawn interest because it contrasts sharply with the luxurious lifestyle Chivayo frequently displayed on social media. The businessman was known for his expensive cars, designer fashion, lavish properties and high-profile lifestyle.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko shared the footage while paying tribute to Chivayo. In his message, Sonko said the businessman would be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Gandami, highlighting the connection between Chivayo and the rural community where his roots were established.

Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, died alongside other people when their helicopter crashed near Marondera on September 30, 2026. The accident shocked Zimbabwe and attracted attention across the region.

Reports indicate that Chivayo had recently spent time at the rural property before the fatal accident. He was reportedly overseeing the construction of a new house at the family homestead as he continued developing the property.

The emergence of the video has prompted renewed discussion about Chivayo’s journey from his rural upbringing to becoming a prominent businessman. His public profile grew significantly through his business activities, philanthropy and highly publicised lifestyle.
