New menu brings key message options together

Google Messages introduced a new long-press menu for users on October 1, 2026, with the aim of making message handling easier.

The update brings frequently used options into one menu. It also works more smoothly in both light and dark modes and has been made easier to use on landscape screens.

One of the main changes allows users to select and copy a specific part of a message instead of copying the entire message.

When a message is long-pressed, users will see options including Reply, Forward, Copy, Star, Delete, Select more and Info. The menu also offers Remix for images and a Save option for pictures.

Selecting part of a message opens a separate menu with options to Copy, Translate or Select all.

When the latest message is selected, a short animation and light vibration appear. The selected message also moves to the centre of the screen, making it easier for users to identify it.

If the new features do not appear on the phone, users can force-stop Google Messages and open it again, which may activate the update.
