Child rights commission submits reply to IHC in social media use case

The national commission while accepting reservations in the petition urged for devising a mechanism and regulatory framework for verification of age, also recommended the online protection of children as part of the regulatory framework of the āDigital Nation Pakistan Actā.
The commission has also recommended for an effective online safety mechanism for children with age verification.
The child rights commission has also stressed boosting specific capacity for probe of the childrenās online sexual exploitation.
The commission also recommended for a specialized system and boosting related capability of the NCCIA.
āEffective legal and regulatory measures are inevitable for online protection of minors,ā the commission said in its reply to the court.

The court had issued notices to the ministries of Information Technology, Information, Interior, Law, the PTA and the PEMRA and summoned their reply.
Petitioner Waqas Nasirās lawyers Muhammad Jalal Haider and Yahya Farid Khawaja appeared before the court pleading for an effective age verification mechanism for social media accounts users.
Petitioners also requested a court order for legislation protecting children from cyber bullying, online harassment and safety from hazardous online material.
The court was also pleaded for devising a comprehensive legal and regulatory framework for online protection of children.
Petitionerās lawyers referring legislation in various countries as an international trend for digital protection of children.
