Chicken, garlic and gram pulse prices rise

Weekly inflation rose by 0.21 per cent last week, taking the annual inflation rate to 11.53 per cent.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the official data showed that prices of 20 essential items increased, while 10 became cheaper and 21 remained unchanged during the week.

Chicken recorded the biggest weekly increase, rising by 7.25 per cent. Garlic became 1.85 per cent more expensive, while gram pulse rose by 1.3 per cent.

LPG prices increased by 1.17 per cent, eggs by 0.72 per cent, rice by 0.55 per cent, onions by 0.39 per cent and flour by 0.29 per cent.

On the other hand, diesel prices fell by 3.43 per cent, bananas by 1.52 per cent, sugar by 1.05 per cent, potatoes by 0.96 per cent and petrol by 0.65 per cent.

Over the past year, onion prices have risen by more than 114 per cent. LPG prices increased by 66.59 per cent, while electricity rates rose by 58.59 per cent.

On an annual basis, diesel became 44.50 per cent more expensive, petrol 44.05 per cent and flour 32.65 per cent more expensive.
