Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc episode 1 recap: Does the Tokyo Manji Gang survive after Tenjiku Arc?

The Tokyo Manji Gang is finally back on our screens. Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc is officially here. Episode 1, titled Break Up, picks up from the emotional wreck of the Tenjiku Arc.

The episode, which premiered on October 2, 2026, marks the beginning of the highly anticipated War of the Three Titans Arc (or Three Deities War Arc).

The series follows a 26-year-old underachiever, Takemichi Hanagaki, whose life takes a turn after he learns that his girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, has been murdered by the ruthless Tokyo Manji Gang, popularly known as Toman. Later, after being pushed in front of a train, he unexpectedly travels 12 years into the past (2005), landing in his middle-school days. He eventually discovers that he can change the future by shaking hands with Hinata’s younger brother, Naoto Tachibana. He begins to infiltrate the gang so that he can rewrite the future.

Season 3, or the Tenjiku Arc, ended with several unfortunate deaths. During the final Tenjiku battle, Kisaki pulled out a gun and aimed at Kakucho, Izana’s childhood friend. Izana jumped in front of the bullets to protect Kakucho and eventually died.

Izana, in his final moments, revealed that he was not actually blood-related to Shinichiro Sano. Meanwhile, Kisaki ran for his life, but as Takemichi and Chifuyu chased him through the streets, Kisaki was suddenly hit by a speeding truck and was killed instantly.

The episode begins with the characters dealing with the devastating aftermath of the Tenjiku battle. Izana is dead, Kisaki has been killed, and the emotional damage is huge.

The grief becomes even heavier with the funeral of Emma Sano, Mikey’s sister. Her death remains one of the most painful consequences of the previous timeline as the characters now realise how violent the world has become.

Takemichi and Chifuyu end up having a difficult conversation. Takemichi explains that he envies Kisaki because Kisaki achieved what Takemichi could not, all only with his brain. Both Takemichi and Kisaki lacked physical strength, but it was clear that even in mental strength, Kisaki was superior to Takemichi.

With Mikey heading towards the same dark future Takemichi has spent years trying to prevent, Takemichi decides to take his biggest gamble yet.

He finally tells Mikey that he is a time traveler. He explains all the chain of events he has witnessed across multiple timelines and how repeatedly changing the past has affected everyone around them.

Mikey actually listens and takes a drastic decision.

The biggest emotional and shocking moment of the episode comes when Mikey makes the decision to officially disband Toman.

At the final meeting at the shrine, Mikey faces the division captains and the core members of the gang and declares his decision. He thanks all the division's captains for their loyalty and everything they have done so far.

It is the end of an era. The gang that represented friendship, brotherhood and rebellion is finally being put to rest.

Chifuyu Matsuno, Toman's First Division vice-captain, is particularly emotional about the decision. After everything he has endured, especially the loss of Baji and the weight of carrying on his friend's memory alongside Takemichi, seeing Toman come to an end hits hard. But Chifuyu understands the burden Mikey is carrying and ultimately respects his decision.

Takashi Mitsuya, the Second Division captain and one of Toman's founding members, also struggles with the finality of the moment. Still Mitsuya understands that Mikey is making this choice because he wants his friends to have a peaceful and legitimate future instead of continuing down the path of gang violence.

Haruki “Pah-chin” Hayashida and Peh-yan of the Third Division also accept Mikey's decision. Their reaction is less about fighting the decision and more about accepting it with somber gratitude.

The Kawata twins, Smiley and Angry, are similarly left with no reason to challenge Mikey. They stand down without protest, respecting Mikey's authority as their commander.

Finally, Draken, or Ken Ryuguji, Vice Captain of the Tokyo Manji Gang and Mikey’s best friend respects and accepts Mikey’s decision in the most Draken way by cursing Mikey.

The whole scene feels less like a normal gang breakup and more like the closing chapter of an entire era. Therefore, all the core members decided to write down a letter which is a time-capsule. They promised to open it after 12 years on the founding day of Tokyo Manji Gang as a tribute to Toman and their brotherhood.

But even though it seems like a goodbye, it is not. The first episode just lays down the path for the next arc of the series, the Three Titans Arc. From the next episode, the era will officially begin. Disbanding Toman may have saved his friends from one form of violence, but Mikey is still heading towards the dark future.

Let's wait for the next episode to witness the beginning and how Takemichi bounces back once again to alternate the events in the past.

Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc is currently streaming exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu. The next episode will drop on October 9, 2026.
