Image: Facebook/Emmanuel Makandiwa Zimbabwean self-proclaimed ‘prophet’ Emmanuel Makandiwa has shared a reflective message following the deaths of businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, saying the couple had been focused on giving and helping others.

Chivayo, 43, and Muteke were among the people killed when a helicopter crashed in Marondera on Wednesday, 30 September.

Zimbabwean authorities said there were no survivors, while investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.

In a condolence message issued on behalf of the United Family International (UFI) Church and his family, Makandiwa revealed that he had recently spent time with Chivayo and his wife at their home.

Makandiwa said he had supper with the couple and held private discussions with them during the meeting.

He indicated that some of the discussions were confidential, but reflected on the significance of the time he had spent with them.

Addressing the circumstances surrounding their deaths, Makandiwa said he had previously stated that he did not know everything and could not see everything, saying that only God could.

He then made a striking observation about the couple’s approach to their lives and philanthropy.

According to Makandiwa, Chivayo and Muteke knew that their time would eventually come and wanted to use their time while they were at their best.

Makandiwa said the couple’s desire to give and help people had been completed on time.

He also described their efforts as having “saved the best for last”.

The comments are likely to attract attention because of Chivayo’s highly publicised generosity in the days leading up to his death.

Just hours before the helicopter crash, Chivayo made a social media post celebrating long-standing relationships with two lawyers and announcing expensive gifts for them.

He began the post with the words “APPRECIATING RELATIONSHIPS BUILT OVER DECADES… SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST”.

Chivayo and Muteke’s deaths have prompted an outpouring of tributes in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Makandiwa ended his message by saying those mourning the couple would continue to keep them in prayer and expressed hope that they would remain in the grace of God.

The helicopter crash remains under investigation as authorities work to establish what caused the aircraft to come down in Marondera
