22-year-old man sentenced to five years in prison for repeatedly assaulting his parents

Share on Twitter A 22-year-old man from Wakiso District has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of repeatedly assaulting his parents and threatening their lives.

Kajjansi Court Judge Happy Monica convicted Lawrence Barugahare on Monday and ordered him to serve his sentence at Kigo Prison.

Lawrence’s mother, Namanya Dina, told court that her son started drinking alcohol while he was still in Primary Three. She said his drinking worsened over the years and was followed by violent behaviour at home.

According to his parents, Barugahare repeatedly beat them, leaving them living in fear and unable to enjoy peace in their own home. They also accused him of threatening to kill them.

The parents welcomed the court’s decision, saying they can now live peacefully without constantly fearing attacks from their son.

They said they hope Barugahare’s time in prison will help him change his behaviour and address his alcohol-related problems.
