Tanzania claims to spend 2bn/- monthly to treat motorcycle accident victims at MOI

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government spends between Sh1.5 billion and Sh2 billion every month to cover medical treatment for some victims of motorcycle accidents, commonly known as bodaboda, at the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI).The figures were provided on September 30, 2026, in Dar es Salaam by Minister for Home Affairs Patrobas Katambi, who said MOI receives between 7,000 and 9,000 patients each month requiring medical treatment.
