Nadia Nakai on Friends and Relationships

Rapper and television personality Nadia Nakai has opened up about the changing dynamics of friendships, particularly when marriage and long-term relationships enter the picture. During an honest conversation Nadia Nakai reflected on how friends can sometimes influence relationships without fully understanding what happens behind closed doors.

Nadia explained that people often turn to their friends for advice when they experience difficulties in their relationships. However, because friends may not know the full story, their opinions can sometimes make a situation worse instead of helping to resolve it.

“Sometimes friends can actually be the people that orchestrate the downfall of your relationship because you’re listening to too many opinions and you are obviously not telling them what’s going on in your relationship or what’s going on with your man fully because you’re protecting your home. And sometimes friends can be the reason why a relationship ends and you didn’t want it to end, or something that could have been fixed because they heightened the problem.”

The conversation also touched on how friendships can naturally change when people get married. Nadia admitted that she once struggled with being the single friend while many of her friends entered relationships and became less available.

“That’s why I understand when people get married, they’re not friends with their single friends anymore. That used to hurt me a lot because I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m the single friend and all my relationship friends are no longer calling me,’ but it’s a normal transition that happens in life.”

According to Nadia, marriage can bring a shift in priorities, values and the way people approach their friendships. She explained that friends may also have different opinions about relationships, which can create tension when someone is simply looking for support.

“Their values have changed and they’re not trying to go outside that much, and you have your own perspective on men, and it’s like, ‘You’re going to judge me when I’m busy telling you what happened, but I forgive him.’”

Nadia further stressed that relationships require people to consider the bigger picture, particularly when they are building a future together. She suggested that outside opinions should not always determine how couples handle their personal problems.

“Also, you can’t just leave your man for whatever dumb situation is happening if you’re building a life with that person. There’s a lot of things that change as you grow older.”
