The General Honorary Consul of Ghana in Mumbai, Honourable Premal Lokhandwala, has urged African business owners to partner with Indian investors to unlock opportunities across the continent.
Lokhandwala made the call during a courtesy visit by three entrepreneurs: Victor Yao Nyakey of Ghana, Muzikayifani Lawrence Nhlovu of South Africa, and Sagar Kurle of India. The meeting highlighted their shared vision of exploring opportunities in India and Africa, while attracting Indian investor interests to execute projects starting in Ghana and South Africa.
Honourable Lokhandwala pledged to support the initiative by verifying the credibility of Indian investors and ensuring a fair environment for investments to thrive. He praised the Ghanaian community in India for their high moral values, describing them as law-abiding, hardworking, and adventurous.
Victor Yao Nyakey, a Ghanaian journalist and business developer, assured the Consul that he and his partners would work with integrity to strengthen Africa–India ties. He expressed gratitude for Lokhandwala’s support in promoting made-in-India products and encouraging Indian manufacturers to set up production lines in Africa.
Muzikayifani Lawrence Nhlovu, CEO of Olal Group, South Africa, emphasized his interest in representing Indian companies in Southern Africa, particularly in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and fiber optics.
Sagar Kurle, an Indian management consultant and merchant exporter, spoke highly of Africa’s potential and expressed his commitment to liaising with Indian firms to enter African markets in partnership with Nyakey and Nhlovu.
Mrs. Maushmi Lokhandwala, a businesswoman and wife of the Honorary Consul, pledged to assist the entrepreneurs in sourcing quality products to scale up their ventures across Africa.
Industrial Context
The partnership comes at a crucial time:
- Ghana is experiencing a strong industrial revival, with new garment factories, agro-processing plants, and industrial parks driving job creation.
- South Africa is working to reverse premature deindustrialisation, focusing on green economy transitions, digitalisation, and localisation strategies.
