Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has warned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to underestimate the opposition NPP.

According to him, the NPP’s plans and strategies are worrying and the government should be cautious and act appropriately in all its dealings.

Speaking in an interview on a YouTube channel, Nana Obiri Boahen warned that a lot is happening in the country and urged the government to be careful.

“The kind of mindset that the NPP has picked, the NDC shouldn’t underestimate them at all. I don’t know when I will die, but the NPP has planned a lot, so the NDC shouldn’t underrate them.

“And if you know the history of this country, Kwame Nkrumah did a lot of things but on the day he was overthrown, the money that had his head on it was used by people as a song to insult him. I am a historian and I am talking,” he said.

He further warned President John Dramani Mahama to be careful about developments within his government and the country at large.

According to him, the President should not rely solely on his close allies but must also pay attention to voices from outside his inner circle, particularly those who criticise his administration and draw attention to issues within the government, if he wants to leave a lasting legacy.

“So, Mahama should be careful. Mahama is my elder brother and he should be guided by the lessons of history. A lot of things happening in your government are not coming from you, but they are happening.

“Open your eyes and ears and see what’s happening. Be extra careful because there has been a time in this country when people insulted Kwame Nkrumah.

“So, he should be extra careful. He shouldn’t listen only to those close to him because those people are only interested in what they will eat. He should try and listen to voices from outside. But if Prof. Mills were to be in government, a lot of the things happening today wouldn’t happen,” he said.
