In Cape Coast, Ghana, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) conducted an information campaign on the safe use of petroleum products, consumer rights and ways to file complaints during this year’s Fetu Afahye festival. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.

Informing festival participants

The events were led by NPA Chief Executive Godwin Kudzo Tameklo. Representatives of the authority spoke with chiefs, residents and other participants in the celebrations in Oguaaman. They provided information on the safe use of petroleum products, as well as channels for consumer inquiries and complaints.

Tameklo said that the festival brings together people from different backgrounds and gives the regulator an opportunity to interact directly with consumers. According to him, celebration participants are consumers of petroleum products in one way or another.

Consumer protection

The NPA noted that its participation in the festival was not limited to festive events: the authority used the platform to reinforce messages about petroleum product safety and consumer protection. Tameklo also stressed that stakeholder satisfaction is one of the priorities of the NPA’s regulatory activities in the petroleum products sector.

The authority said it will continue to protect consumers through ongoing public education, effective complaint handling, the collection of consumer and market information, and regular engagement with the public across the country.
