In Ghana, African Collaborations Group (ACG) announced on September 7, 2026, that Rugby Africa President Herbert Mensah had joined its advisory board. According to MyJoyOnline, he is to advise the organization on sports and entertainment district projects in Africa that will combine sports facilities with commercial and entertainment infrastructure.

Multi-purpose districts

ACG aims to develop complexes that will combine sports venues with hotels, retail, commercial spaces and entertainment facilities. According to the group’s plan, this approach is intended to complement the practice of building standalone stadiums and other sports facilities so that the sites can generate economic activity throughout the year, rather than mainly during competitions.

ACG’s model provides for several sources of revenue: sports, hospitality, retail, commercial real estate and entertainment. The group stated that it supports projects from concept development and feasibility assessment through financing and implementation.

Herbert Mensah’s role

Mensah also serves on the executive board of World Rugby and chairs the World Rugby Regions Association, which brings together the presidents of six continental rugby confederations. According to ACG, his experience and professional connections are expected to help engage governments, development finance institutions, investors, developers and sports organizations in the proposed projects.

ACG stated that Africa’s sports economy, according to its forecast, could reach $20 billion by 2035. At the same time, the organization pointed to a lack of integrated infrastructure for large-scale sports and entertainment projects. Mensah’s appointment came after former FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura joined ACG’s advisory board.
