Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, officially opened the Girls-In-ICT Open Day 2025 and urged girls to master technology, innovation and artificial intelligence in order to help shape the country’s digital future. The five-day program brings together 100 participants in the Girls-In-ICT 2025 initiative — 50 girls each from the Volta and Upper West regions. According to the minister, the project is an investment in Ghana’s future and is intended to provide girls with the skills, confidence and opportunities to become the next generation of technology leaders.
Skills for digital professions
George noted that women are underrepresented in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software development and data science. He urged participants not to limit themselves to being technology users, but to become creators, innovators and specialists capable of developing digital solutions to real problems.
The minister stressed that girls should not consider technology a field intended for others. He encouraged them to see themselves as future software developers, AI researchers, technology entrepreneurs and digital leaders.

Training and mentorship
The program is being held under the theme “Girls in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation.” Over five days, participants will visit information and communication technology institutions and technology companies, as well as take part in mentorship sessions with women professionals.
They will also receive practical training in emerging technologies, programming, leadership and career development, and will participate in entrepreneurship and team-building activities. George separately urged participants to support the ethical and responsible use of AI and digital technologies, taking into account privacy, cybersecurity, disinformation, fairness and algorithmic bias.
The Director-General of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT also urged the girls to be not only consumers of technology but also creators of digital solutions that will contribute to the country’s development.
