Abubakari Mohammed declared bid for Amasaman NDC Chairmanship

Assembly Member for the Onyansana Electoral Area, Abubakari Mohammed, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman for Amasaman.

Speaking during his declaration, Mohammed said his decision to contest was driven by the need to unite the party and address internal divisions within the constituency.

He said he was not contesting as the candidate of any faction or power bloc but as a leader seeking to bring members together and strengthen the party from the grassroots.

“My mission is simple but urgent: to unify this party and bring the character of a unifier to the leadership of this constituency,” he stated.

Abubakari Mohammed outlined three key priorities if elected chairman: promoting unity from the grassroots, recognising hardworking and loyal party members, and establishing a functional Council of Elders.

He said his leadership would operate an open-door policy and ensure that all members of the NDC were treated as part of one family, regardless of their affiliations.

As part of efforts to recognise loyal party members, Mohammed proposed the establishment of an Annual Awards and Recognition Day to honour former and hardworking members who have contributed to the growth of the party.

He also pledged to establish a Council of Elders, with one respected member selected from each branch across the constituency, to serve as an advisory and conflict-resolution body.

Mohammed further promised to use his experience in lobbying and building relationships with government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders to attract opportunities and development to the Amasaman Constituency.

He stressed, however, that such relationships would be pursued in the interest of the party and the development of the constituency rather than for personal gain.

Touching on the party’s electoral fortunes, Mohammed noted that the NDC’s experience during the 2020 election should serve as a reminder of the dangers of internal disunity.

He said the party could not afford to allow internal conflicts to weaken its chances in future elections and pledged to work towards making Amasaman a stronger and safer constituency for the NDC ahead of the 2028 general election.

“To my competitors in this race, I say this: I have no war with you. My war is against disunity,” he stated.
Mohammed appealed to delegates to support his candidature, pledging to promote unity, inclusivity, hard work and accountability if elected.

He said his vision was to build a “stronger, more united and more formidable NDC” in the Amasaman Constituency and position the party for victory in 2028.
