In Ghana, women’s football club Ampem Darkoa Ladies lost to Nigeria’s Edo Queens in the final of the WAFU B qualifying tournament for the Confederation of African Football Women’s Champions League. The match ended 2:2, with Edo Queens winning the penalty shootout 4:1. The Nigerian club secured the region’s only place in the final tournament.
As MyJoyOnline reports, Ghana will not have a representative in the CAF Women’s Champions League for the third consecutive season.
Course of the final match
Ampem Darkoa Ladies opened the scoring in the third minute: Milot Pokuya assisted Belin Nyarko. The start of the match was delayed due to adverse weather conditions. Edo Queens equalised a minute after the first goal.

In the second half, Ampem Darkoa Ladies had more possession and created chances. In the 71st minute, the Ghanaian team was awarded a penalty, which Nyarko converted to complete her brace. However, in the 93rd minute, Edo Queens scored for the second time and took the game to a penalty shootout.
Penalty shootout
Edo Queens converted their first three attempts in the shootout. Ampem Darkoa Ladies players missed their first two attempts, while Nyarko scored with the third. The Nigerian team converted its fourth attempt and won the shootout 4:1.
Edo Queens won the 2026 WAFU B qualifying tournament and will play in the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year. This will be the club’s second appearance in the competition after taking part in 2024.
