Former Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Rachel Appoh, has blamed the current MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, for the deaths and injuries recorded in renewed violence over a land dispute in the constituency.

Appoh said responsibility for the reported deaths should be placed “squarely on the doorstep” of the MP, accusing him of funding a demonstration that allegedly culminated in the deadly confrontation.

She described the incident as a consequence of what she called the MP’s failure to exercise sound judgment and urged him to take responsibility for the deaths and injuries.

“Your mistake killed three people and injured 19 others,” Appoh said on Neat FM on September 3, 2026, calling on A-Plus to “bow his head in shame and take responsibility.”

She further accused the MP of introducing what she described as “total indiscipline and violence” into the constituency.

“His lack of intelligence caused those needless deaths. He went on a demonstration without taking a permit or seeking police protection, ” she said.

The comments come after a shooting incident involving residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in the Central Region, reportedly linked to a longstanding land dispute between the two communities.

Fifteen people, including a police officer who sustained various degrees of injuries, including gunshot wounds, were initially rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for treatment.

According to reports, some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom, who claim ownership of land in New Winneba, entered the community in the early hours of Tuesday and allegedly opened fire.

The group was also reportedly attempting to lock up some shops in the area when residents of New Winneba resisted, resulting in a confrontation that escalated into an exchange of gunfire.

Several people were injured in the ensuing violence, while some residents reportedly fled the community for their safety.

The police have since reinforced their presence in the area as security personnel work to restore calm and prevent further violence.

So far, the police have arrested six persons in connection with Tuesday’s rioting.

Those arrested are Kweku Kakraba, 52; Arko Thomas, 19; Samuel Tulasi, 19; Samuel Gyasi, 22; Emmanuel Okyere, 22; and Seth Osei, 22.
