Kwesi Pratt Jnr questions suitability of some NDC presidential aspirants

Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has expressed reservations about the suitability of certain presidential aspirants within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, and sighted on X on September 5, 2026, Pratt questioned the character, judgment, and communication style of some individuals seeking the party’s presidential ticket.

“There are some aspirants whose character, wisdom, and manner of speaking make you wonder why such people would even want to be president,” he said.

Kwesi Pratt noted that he has engaged with every presidential candidate since the return to constitutional rule in 1992.

He also raised broader concerns about political appointments, stating that the practice of presidents selecting officials sometimes prioritises political balancing over merit.

“From 1992, there has been no presidential candidate I have not interacted with. Honestly, when we allow presidents to appoint officials, it becomes a problem. Some government officials are even appointed simply to balance equations,” he remarked.

He further cautioned against any sense of superiority that may accompany high public office.

“That notion of people thinking that when they become ministers they are somehow better than the rest of us must be approached with caution,” Pratt added.

The comments come as internal conversations continue within the NDC regarding potential contenders for future leadership contests.
